  1. Manpower requests are placed on Local Union 720's dispatch recording 4:30 p.m. daily. Manpower requests are then dispatched the following buisness day. The dispatch Jobline recording phone number is: (780) 482-1637.

  2. The dispatch recording explains the details of the call; craft desired, duration, shift schedule, geographical location, etc.

  3. Dispatch normally begins at 8:30 a.m. for members unless otherwise specified on the dispatch recording.

  4. All post-ins or (phone-ins) must be received by the dispatcher Prior to dispatch start time specified on dispatch recording. Members Please phone in between 8:00AM and 8:30AM, Travel Cards and Permits please phone in between 10:00AM and 10:30AM. You should hear back before 2:00PM if you have been awarded the call.

When Posting in at 482-0720, identify yourself and indicate the call or calls you are interested in. Leave a return phone number you can be reached at. All return calls by the dispatcher to confirm employment will be collect calls.

PLEASE NOTE: As of Monday July 18th 2005 the certification requirements for Alberta Ironworkers and Welders have changed. You can still be dispatched, however you may need to fill out the necessary paperwork prior to taking a job. Local 720 will assist you in this regard.

Trade Certification Information

Please be advised that as of July 18th 2005, Local 720 just comply with new Alberta government standards regarding Journeyman and Apprentice Ironworkers. Local 720's training and union offices have all the necessary information and forms available to allow you to work legally in Alberta as an Ironworker or Welder.

All reinforcing, Precast and Structural Ironworkers, as well as Welders must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for dispatch:

  • You must possess Inter-provincial or Red Seal certification, or
  • You must possess Alberta provincial or equivalency certification, or
  • You must be registered with the Alberta Qualification Journeyman Certificate Program, or
  • You must be registered as an apprentice in the Alberta apprenticeship program.

The following applicable information will be available at the Apprenticeship and Training Fund office or at Local 720's administration office.

  • Addresses and Locations of the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training offices.
  • Government of Alberta compliance letter
  • Applications to the Alberta Journeyman Qualification Certificate Program.
  • Application forms to register as an apprentice in the province of Alberta.
  • Applications regarding equivalency status in the province of Alberta.
  • Access to inter-provincial Red Seal study materials.
