Petro-Canada - Refinery Conversion Project (RCP)


Location: Edmonton, Alberta.

Contractor: Bantrel Constructors Co.

Description: BCC will be modifying the existing refinery to enable Petro-Canada to switch from their current "conventional light/medium" feedstock to a mixed blend of sour synthetic crude (Suncor) and heavy oil (Cold Lake Blend) initially, and ultimately to a mixed blend of sour synthetic crude and Athabasca Bitumen in the future.

Status: Bantrel Constructors and JE Jacobs have began to mobilize crews for the project. Hiring is expected to increase during August 2006.

A&H reinforcing has mobilized and hiring is ongoing.

Location: Fort Saskatchewan [Upgrading and U&O]

Owner: Shell Canada

Status: Reinforcing contracts will mobilize fall 2006. Structural and

Mechanical Module Assembly yards will mobilize mid 2007.

MRM Expansion II - Value $4 Billion to start Q3 2006; Completion Q3 2009 (includes MRM & Upgrader Expansion work)

Bulk Material Quantities: 35,000 Tons of structural steel, including modules.

June/06 Status: Most areas of the project have mobilized. Local 720 has secured work for union ironworkers on 90% of the contracts to date [Click to View Project Photographs]

Contractors:

A&H Steel: Reinforcing contracts for coker and froth treatment areas. 20 Rodmen on site (Hiring ongoing).

VSL Reinforcing: Reinforcing contract for mine maintenance, Buildings, Sulphur treatment. 20 Rodmen on site (Hiring ongoing)

Deerlake Reinforcing: 5 Rodmen on site.

Driver Iron: Extraction & Hydrogen units structural, Reinforcing & Mechanical contracts. 20 Rodmen on site (hiring ongoig), 30 structural Ironworkers on site (hiring ongoing).

PCL Industrial: Structural & Mechanical contract for the coker block. 25 Structural Ironworkers on site. (Hiring ongoing)

TIC: Installation of 300 piping modules contract. 30 Structural Ironworkers and Welders on site. (Hiring ongoing).

Waiward Steel: Ore Prep Contract, Serge facility, over 140,000 hours of work. Mobilizing August 2006, crew size TBA.

L. Robert Enterprises: Material handling contract. Mobilized.

Schedules in most areas are 10 days on, 4 days off or 20 days on, 8 days off.

On site Air transportation to various designated areas across Canada is available.

Work is being performed under the HCML project labour agreement and the standard collective reinforcing and structural agreement.
