Superintendent Training For Ironworkers


Course Description:

The Superintendent Training for Ironworkers course is designed to develop skilled Ironworker superintendents. During this blended learning course (combination of self-study, online exercises, and group-based training) the participants will learn the roles and responsibilities of the superintendent as well as how to manage project schedules, information, people, the job site and safety. Participants will also learn communication skills, how to close out a project, and basic construction finance and law.

The initial or level one course consists of self-study and the completion of online exercises. Those completing level one who are sponsored by their local union or employer may attend the level two course, which is a 24-hour group-based course. The level two course will be conducted at the request of District Council Presidents or IMPACT Regional Advisory Boards (RAB).

Course Objective:

The objective of this course is to develop skilled Ironworker superintendents.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

Identify the roles and responsibilities of the Ironworker superintendent

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills

    Target Audience:

    This course is designed for Ironworkers who have completed the Foreman Training course or have experience as a foreman, general foreman or superintendent. Individuals interested who have not completed the Foreman Training course are strongly encouraged to so before beginning this course.

     

    Length of Course:

    The level one course involves self-study using the Superintendent Training for Ironworkers reference manual coupled with completion of a series of online learning exercises. The amount of time required to complete the reading and online exercises will vary from person to person.

    The level two course requires 24-hours during three consecutive days and will be conducted for participants from the US and Canada.

    If requested, the course will be conducted at a District Council or IMPACT Regional Advisory Board level. All course participants must complete the level one course before attending the level two course.

    Course Materials:

    • Superintendent Training for Ironworkers reference manual (acquired through the local Apprenticeship Coordinator)
    • Ironworker Online Learning Center exercises (access codes issued when enrolled by Apprenticeship Coordinator)

    To participate in this course each person must have their own e-mail address.

    Completion of the Level One Course:

    Completion of the level one course requires reading the first module in the reference manual and then going to the Ironworker Online Learning Center and completing all exercises for that module. Repeat this process for all of the modules in the Superintendent Training for Ironworkers reference manual. Upon completion of the final module and exercises, the participant will be able to print a completion certificate.

    Important Course Information

    • A $150 Fee will be charged to NO SHOWS or those who fail to attend the entire course.
    • Participants are asked to arrive 10 min before the start of class.
    • Late arrivals will not be permitted.
